Types of Websites
There are many ways to classify your web-based technical needs. We have grouped
them into two main categories, and four total sub-categories. By no means are these
the only web services available, but it is a good point of reference.

Static Brochure
|
The majority of websites on the internet are brochure type sites (presence websites).
Static brochure websites allow companies to offer information about their products
or services for prospective customers/partners. They provide an easy method to communicate
company information and make it accessible to prospects, customers and partners.

Content Management System
|
Content Management Systems (CMS) are very similar to Static Brochure websites. The
biggest difference is that the owner of the site has more control over the content
that is displayed without having to write HTML or any software code. These systems
usually consist of some administration section that enables the website owner to
enter content in a WYSIWYG editor. It is common to find CMS's that include some
gadgets/widgets such as an events calendar or a polling system.

Custom Internal (Intranet)
|
Many businesses have recognized the value of creating their own custom internal
applications to utilize the internet. These web systems typically are very specialized
for a particular business / organization. A company can experience several benefits
by building many of their work flow processes and internal applications on web technologies.
Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
can be classified as types of Intranet applications.
ERP systems attempt to integrate several data sources and processes of an organization
into a unified system. A typical ERP system will use multiple components of computer
software and hardware to achieve the integration. A key ingredient of most ERP systems
is the use of a unified database to store data for the various system modules.

ECommerce
|
ECommerce-enabled websites allow for the actual purchase of products and services
from customers, directly through the website. These websites normally provide dynamic
content (this content is determined by the customer as he/she clicks the various
areas on the website). There are many businesses that are strictly eCommerce businesses,
with no physical store front. Even those businesses with a physical store front
have also recognized the benefit of offering their products and services for sale
over the internet. These types of websites usually offer a shopping cart and secure
check out functions.
